CAWL Weight Class Rules

A team should make every effort to have a full team. A full team shall consist of nineteen (19) weight classes as follows:

50, 55, 60, 65, 70, 75, 80, 85, 90, 95, 100, 105, 110, 115, 122, 130, 140, 150 and heavyweight 153-185.

A one pound (+1 lb) allowance will be granted on the second day of a two day competition, same as high school regulations.

Participants in the 50 and 55 pound weight classes cannot be twelve (12) years old on or before December 31 of the current wrestling season.

Participants in the 60 and 65 pound weight classes cannot be thirteen (13) years old on or before December 31 of the current wrestling season.

Participants in the 70 and 75 pound weight classes cannot be fourteen (14) years old on or before December 31 of the current wrestling season.

Participants in the 80 and 85 pound weight classes cannot be fifteen (15) years old on or before December 31 of the current wrestling season.

Participants in the 90 pound and above weight classes cannot be sixteen (16) years old on or before December 31 of the current wrestling season.

Participants in the heavyweight weight class, 153-185 lbs, must be at least 13 years old. Waives could be submitted for a 12 year old if necessary.

Exception: A wrestler who is 15 on or before December 31, can be eligible to wrestle in the 90 lb. weight class if he can be certified at 85 lbs. or less at a certification weigh-in during the week prior to the first dual meet. Notify the Commissioner if you have a wrestler who fits this need. The League Commissioner will notify each team of the date, time and location of the certification. This is a one-time weigh-in prior to the season. After the certification the wrestler can weigh above 85 lbs. but must be less than 90 lbs.

NOTE: A one pound allowance can be given by the Commissioner for loss of practice time due to the schools being closed because of bad weather. This one pound is good for all wrestlers on that weekend only. Check with the Commissioner first . . . do not assume!
